You have not given me into the hands of the enemy but have set my feet in a spacious place. (Psalm 31:8 NIV)

I Trust

I hate those who pay regard to vain (empty, worthless) idols; but I trust in the Lord [and rely on Him with unwavering confidence]. (Psalm 31:6 AMP)

Today's meditation:
  • Faith is often forward-looking, "the substance of things hoped for," but trust is mostly in the here and now where we anchor our emotions and confidence before deliverance comes.
Pray today:
  • For the Emmanuel family to have unwavering confidence in the Lord, for our prayers to never cease, for our faith to ever increase, for our trust to be rock-steady and secure.
  • For Thy kingdom come, Thy will be done, in earth as it is in heaven.

The Path of Peace

Because of God's tender mercy, the morning light from heaven is about to break upon us, to give light to those who sit in darkness and in the shadow of death, and to guide us to the path of peace. (Luke 1:78-79 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Darkness and shadows are all too common and never comfortable which is why we need to stay in the light of God's presence that dispels darkness and reveals the path of peace.
Pray today:
  • For each part of the Emmanuel College debt reduction plan to be completed within the required timeline, for clear guidance from the Holy Spirit, for the favor of God to rest upon us, for God's will to be done in every decision and action by all the persons involved, for the path of peace to be found by all.

In You Alone

Pull me from the trap my enemies set for me, for I find protection in you alone. (Psalm 31:4 NLT)

The Honor of Your Name

You are my rock and my fortress. For the honor of your name, lead me out of this danger. (Psalm 31:3 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • We don't deserve the favor of God, never have, never will, yet he stoops to work wonders in us which display his glory and bring honor to his name.
Give thanks today:
  • We asked God specifically to help us eliminate our debts, and God responded by granting us favor, resulting in the cancellation or payment of a number of lesser debts over the past three months. Praise the Lord!
Pray today:
  • For continuing negotiations related to our debt, for deliverance from the bondage of debt, and for Emmanuel College to eventually be debt-free.
Our prayers make a difference in our outcomes. Please continue to pray over the list below that focuses on key needs at Emmanuel College.

My Rock of Protection

Turn your ear to listen to me; rescue me quickly. Be my rock of protection, a fortress where I will be safe. (Psalm 31:2 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Rescue often comes in stages, step by step, miracle by miracle, until the work is done and we bask in the glory of his presence and marvel at the wonder of his deliverance.
Give thanks today:
  • We asked God specifically to help us reduce our burden of debt, and God has responded by granting us favor, resulting recently in an agreement that will lead to a dramatic reduction in debt this spring. Praise the Lord!
Pray today:
  • For the debt reduction process to move more quickly than expected, to conclude in 60 days or less, and to make it possible to overcome other challenges.
Our prayers make a difference in our outcomes. Please continue to pray over the list below that focuses on key needs at Emmanuel College.

I Have Come to You

O Lord, I have come to you for protection; don't let me be disgraced. Save me, for you do what is right. (Psalm 31:1 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • May we realize that part of God's protection comes from listening carefully to him and obeying his voice in making good decisions that keep us out of trouble in the first place.
Give thanks today:
  • We asked God specifically to grant us favor with authorities and agencies, and God responded by helping us time and again by covering us with grace and mercy that led to miraculous outcomes.
Pray today:
  • For God's protection from forces that war against us, for him to save us from pitfalls and other unseen dangers, for us to have the wisdom to follow him to safety.

Thank Him for All He Has Done

Don't worry about anything; instead, pray about everything. Tell God what you need, and thank him for all he has done. (Philippians 4:6 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • A lifetime of God's favor creates in us a thankful posture, regardless of current circumstances,  knowing he can do what we need as easily as what he has already done.
Give thanks today:
  • In 2016 we enrolled 920 students, but in 2017, we again asked God specifically to send us more students that we might expand our sphere of influence, and he responded by sending us 952 students which, at the time, was the largest enrollment in the history of Emmanuel College and the third consecutive year of record-breaking attendance. God is so good! Praise the Lord!
Pray a prayer of thanksgiving today:
  • Thank you, Lord, for encouraging us to pray instead of worry, for giving us what we need when we pray about everything, for performing marvelous miracles despite our mistakes and failures, for being God with us - always. Amen.
Our prayers make a difference in our outcomes. Please continue to pray over the list below that focuses on key needs at Emmanuel College.

Listen and Answer

Please listen and answer me, for I am overwhelmed by my troubles. (Psalm 55:2 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • When our understanding falls victim to our need for relief, we feel overwhelmed, but if we pause for a moment and think of how God has helped us in the past, it should enlighten our understanding enough to replace our dazed emotions with energetic joy.
Give thanks today:
  • In 2015 we enrolled 884 students, but in 2016, we again asked God specifically to send us more students that we might expand our sphere of influence, and he responded by sending us 920 students which, at the time, was the largest enrollment in the history of Emmanuel College and the second consecutive year of record-breaking attendance. God is good! Praise the Lord!
Pray this prayer for a few more days:
  • O Lord, please rescue Emmanuel College from the bondage of debt, please perform a miracle of agreement among parties with differing opinions, please orchestrate all decisions and actions to yield to your perfect timing. Amen.

My Cry

Listen to my prayer, O God. Do not ignore my cry for help! (Psalm 55:1 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Would God ever ignore our prayers? No. Never. But it can feel that way when our human impatience intersects with divine direction that moves at God's pace under his control for his purposes and for our good.
Give thanks today:
  • In 2014 we enrolled 816 students, but in 2015, we asked God specifically to send us more students that we might expand our sphere of influence, and he responded by sending us 884 students which, at the time, was the largest enrollment in the history of Emmanuel College. Praise the Lord!

Help Me

Please, God, rescue me! Come quickly, Lord and help me. (Psalm 70:1 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Easy to lose patience when people, plans and decisions struggle at a glacial pace, and sometimes that is what we need, but we can pray for quick relief and patient endurance at the same time.
Give thanks today:
  • We asked God specifically to give us relief from federal regulations impinging upon our religious freedoms, and God answered by creating conditions that led to the rescinding of these onerous rules and the opportunity for new legislation to protect our religious rights. Praise the Lord!

Hope in the Lord

So be strong and courageous, all you who put your hope in the Lord! (Psalm 31:24 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • When we put our hope in the Lord, when we have confidence that the outcome is his, strength comes and courage follows.
Give thanks today:
  • We asked God specifically to give us strength in the heat of battle, and God has responded on every occasion, no matter the opposition, providing boldness at times and quiet resolve at other times, bringing us safely through. Praise the Lord!

No Other Rock

"Do not tremble; do not be afraid. Did I not proclaim my purposes for you long ago? You are my witnesses - is there any other God? No! There is no other Rock - not one!" (Isaiah 44:8 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Circumstances can be large and in charge, or so it may seem. It happened to Peter at Jesus' trial and to John Mark when he fled from the dangers of a missionary journey, but they turned out Ok because they turned back to God, our God who is able, our God who is like no other. Listen to his assuring voice, "Do not tremble; do not be afraid."
Give thanks today:
  • Thinking back to when this prayer blog started, we began over three years ago by praying for a miracle of financial resources, and since then, God has provided what we needed when we needed it, not a moment too soon nor a moment too late. And the miracles continue. Praise the Lord!
Pray this prayer for a few more days:
  • O Lord, please rescue Emmanuel College from the bondage of debt, please perform a miracle of agreement among parties with differing opinions, please orchestrate all decisions and actions to yield to your perfect timing. Amen.

An Isolated Place to Pray

Before daybreak the next morning, Jesus got up and went out to an isolated place to pray. (Mark 1:35 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Amid the hectic pace and clamor of our modern lives, how sweet it is to find secluded moments to commune with God, to enjoy his presence with no agenda but to be with him, soaking up his love as a refreshing balm that mends and restores.
Give thanks today:
  • We prayed specifically for God to help us improve our physical plant so we budgeted $26,000 to replace one leaky roof, but God responded by sending a hail storm, and for a deductible of $25,000, our insurance company paid to replace every shingled roof on campus (don't miss it, but we had a thousand dollars left over to use on something else). Not only are we dryer, the matching roof color across the entire campus looks so much better. Praise the Lord!
Pray this prayer for a few more days:
  • O Lord, please rescue Emmanuel College from the bondage of debt, please perform a miracle of agreement among parties with differing opinions, please orchestrate all decisions and actions to yield to your perfect timing. Amen.
