Think

The Lord has given me a strong warning not to think like everyone else does. (Isaiah 8:11 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • We are not to follow the crowd or go with the flow. We are called to swim against the stream, to think differently - like Jesus!
Pray today:
  • For the people of Emmanuel College to dare to think differently about education and learning, about recruiting and fundraising, about service and ministry, about mission and vision, not for difference sake but for the purpose of being more effective and successful at what God has called us to do.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.
  • To enroll more than 1000 students in August 2019.
  • To continue reducing our debt over the next five years with the purpose of becoming debt-free.

God Called

When the Lord saw that he had gone over to look, God called to him from within the bush, "Moses! Moses!" And Moses said, "Here I am." (Exodus 3:4 NIV)

Today's meditation:
  • When the call comes, how we respond is vitally important.
Pray today:
  • For Emmanuel College to capture the attention of today's youth, for them to come closer to take a look, for them to be interested and intrigued by what they see, for the Lord to call them here for an education, for spiritual growth, for career direction, for Christian service, for them to eagerly respond.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:

From Within a Bush

Now Moses was tending the flock . . . and he led the flock to the far side of the wilderness and came to Horeb . . . There the angel of the Lord appeared to him in flames of fire from within a bush . . . So  Moses thought, "I will go over and see this strange sight - why the bush does not burn up." (Exodus 3:1-3 NIV)

Today's meditation:
  • We all know what a big decision looks like, but we miss the fact that small decisions sometimes carry more weight, like choosing to go to some insignificant place only to be confronted with a life-changing thought, word, or deed or even an unexpected encounter with God.
Pray today:
  • For our students who may be running from God or who may be trying to ignore him, whether in chapel or in class or in their dorm rooms, for them to encounter God, hear his voice and obey, for thousands of prospective students, looking the other way, to hear the Lord's voice calling them to a life-changing experience at Emmanuel College.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.

Follow

My sheep listen to my voice; I know them, and they follow me. (John 10:27 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Not enough to hear his voice or even listen because what matters most is to follow.
Pray today:
  • For prospective students whom God is calling to Emmanuel wherever they may be, for them to hear even in the farthest corner of the world, for them to respond to God's voice and obey, for College personnel to be effective in reaching them, for alumni and friends of the College to have influence with them, for them to be in the center of God's will.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:

Plans

What you ought to say is, "If the Lord wants us to, we will live and do this or that." Otherwise you are boasting about your own pretentious plans, and all such boasting is evil. (James 4:15-16 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Planning is important to any enterprise, but if the plans do not align with his purpose and will, we will be wasting our time and resources. To discover God's will, pray first and keep on praying.
Pray today:
  • For our student recruiting plans to be effective in reaching students who need what God has to offer them at Emmanuel College, for enrollment next semester to exceed expectations, for God's favor upon us as we pray and work to recruit the Centennial class for the fall semester in 2019.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:

Learn

Do yourself a favor and learn all you can; then remember what you learn and you will prosper. (Proverbs 19:8 GNB)

Today's meditation:
  • Learning is seldom sufficient. It is the application of the learning that brings success.
Pray today:
  • For any students who may be struggling at the midterm of the fall semester, for them to recognize the opportunities before them and to resist the temptation to give up, for them to have the courage to reach out for help, for persistence, success, and prosperity for them in the days and years ahead.

Really Love

Don't just pretend to love others. Really love them. Hate what is wrong. Hold tightly to what is good. (Romans 12:9 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Hate is a strong word. Love is even stronger. Hating the evil that enslaves people is good. Loving people as Jesus loves them is even better and can set them free.
Pray today:
  • For the loving kindness of Jesus' followers to overwhelm evil wherever we go, for the cleansing flow of Jesus' blood to set the captives free, especially among our students, for life in the Holy Spirit to captivate this generation with the love and beauty of Christ.
  • For the many ways we have the opportunity to really love the younger generations: EC Serve, chapel services, EC Singers and Players, Conquest and Revive outreach ministries, counseling services, small groups through The Vine, Cafe Lavie, residence life staff, coaching staff, EC Bridge, Nash Prayer and Ministry Center, formal and informal mentoring through staff and faculty, and many more.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.

Your Gift

If your gift is to encourage others, be encouraging. If it is giving, give generously . . . And if you have a gift for showing kindness to others, do it gladly. (Romans 12:8 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Spiritual gifts? Yes, we all have at least one or two. The sobering question is: Do we let our gifts decay or do we give them away?
Pray today:
  • For our students, staff, and faculty to discover and use their God-given gifts to reach the world for Jesus, for us to focus on others who may be discouraged, helpless, and oppressed, for us to bring the love of Jesus to them through the ministry of the Word and the passion of our hearts to relieve human suffering.

Comfort Them

Lord, you know the hopes of the helpless. Surely you will hear their cries and comfort them. (Psalm 10:17 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Helplessness drains hope from the soul until we learn to call upon the Lord who is our help and our hope, enabling us to endure and overcome trouble.
Pray today:
  • For disaster relief efforts to the hurricane and flooding victims in eastern North Carolina, for the EC Serve project on our campus to collect provisions and supplies to send to flood victims there.
  • For other EC Serve projects in the planning stages, for more volunteers to engage in serving others through these projects, for the people who need our help, who need hope restored, who need to see the Lord through the loving care of his sons and daughters.

Ready to Help

God is our refuge and strength, always ready to help in times of trouble. (Psalm 46:1 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • When trouble comes, it's hard to explain and even harder to live through, but turning to God strengthens resolve to persevere and overcome.
Pray today:
  • For all who are suffering loss and devastation in the wake of hurricane Florence, especially those in flooded areas who need food, water, and shelter, for government and disaster relief agencies to provide services where help is needed, for the flood waters to recede quickly, for power to be restored.
  • For those of the Emmanuel family in the stricken areas to find refuge and strength in the Lord, for them to be protected and to be in good health, for their needs to be met.

On a Mountain to Pray

About eight days later Jesus took Peter, John, and James up on a mountain to pray. (Luke 9:28 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • The world says we are sufficient and need no one. By example, Jesus reveals a different path - one that draws strength from God through the solitude of prayer.
Pray today:
  • For us to overcome the weaknesses of the flesh that would neglect the necessity of calling on God, that would deceive us into thinking we can make it on our own, that would modernize Christian practices to the point of unplugging us from the Source.
  • For the practice of prayer to be constant and central to our lives of faith, for our connection to God to be strengthened through the discipline of prayer, for us to rely on prayer to reveal God's heart and shape our responses.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.

He Renews

He lets me rest in green meadows; he leads me beside peaceful streams. He renews my strength. He guides me along right paths. (Psalm 23:2-3 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Places for quiet times and prayer are important and help us focus on our loving father who knows precisely how to encourage us and renew us with his strength.
Pray today:
  • For our efforts to create more spaces on our campus for individuals and groups to meet for prayer and Bible study, for a continued focus on prayer for Emmanuel College, for more people praying throughout our campus, for more prayers by our alumni and friends.
  • For more groups to form that study God's word, that support and encourage growth in Christ, that provide guidance for living by his principles and following his path.

Message of the Cross

The message of the cross is foolish to those who are headed for destruction! But we who are being saved know it is the very power of God. (1 Corinthians 1:18 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Whether shiny and gold or rugged and blood-stained, the cross symbolizes the ultimate sacrifice and the power of God that cancels the death sentence for you and me.
Pray today:
  • For wisdom in placing Christian symbols across our campus in ways that remind people of the message of the Gospel and the power of God to save us.
  • For students who need Jesus to find Jesus, for those who need a closer walk with God to walk closer to God, for those who are seeking God's purpose in their lives to move with purpose to discover his will and way.

Win the Prize

And athletes cannot win the prize unless they follow the rules. (2 Timothy 2:5 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Playing by the rules of the game keeps one in the game and moving toward a win. True in games, true in life.
Pray today:
  • For our student athletes to work diligently in their respective sports, but more importantly, for them to fight for victory in living, following the example of Jesus both on and off the field of play.
  • For our coaches, staff and faculty to be effective guides and mentors to our student athletes, to lead them to Jesus, to help them understand Christian principles, good decision-making, and teamwork, to show them how to apply lessons from competition to the arena of life.

Call on the Lord

Run from anything that stimulates youthful lusts. Instead, pursue righteous living, faithfulness, love, and peace. Enjoy the companionship of those who call on the Lord with pure hearts. (2 Timothy 2:22 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • The struggles of youth are intense and filled with danger, yet God offers love and peace to fill the voids created by sin. Who will guide them? Who will light their way? If not us, who?
Pray today:
  • For our students to avoid poor choices, especially the ones with dire consequences, for them to pursue right living, for them to find friends to lean upon during times of temptation and struggle - friends who help them call on the Lord.
  • For our staff and faculty to create co-curricular initiatives to assist our students with good decision-making, with relationships that encourage and build up, and with effective pathways to righteous living.

Save the World

For God did not send his Son into the world to condemn the world, but to save the world through him. (John 3:17 NIV)

The Right Road

A wise person chooses the right road; a fool takes the wrong one. (Ecclesiastes 10:2 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Most wrong turns can be corrected by simply turning around. Others extract a high price, and for these we need God's mercy and wisdom to see our way through.
Pray today:
  • For our students to make wise choices in the classroom, in their careers, and in the company they keep - now and in the future.
  • For our staff and faculty to make wise choices in the way we work, in the things we say and do, in the relationships we build, and in the guidance we offer our students.

I Sing

Turn and answer me, O Lord my God . . . Don't let my enemies gloat, saying, "We have defeated him!" Don't let them rejoice at my downfall. But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me. (Psalm 13:3-6 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • No matter the human emotion, God knows what we need and he knows when we need it, and so we ask, and with trust in him, we wait for his answer.
Pray today:
  • For patience in the waiting, for calm assurance, for correct perceptions and clear vision, for bold faith that continues to move mountains.
  • For rejoicing and singing flowing from our hearts because God is good to us.

I Rejoice

How long must I struggle with anguish in my soul, with sorrow in my heart? How long will my enemy have the upper hand? But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me. (Psalm 13:2, 5, 6 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • It may feel (emphasis on the word feel) that the enemy has the upper hand, but he never does. His successful intrusions into the lives of God's children are only temporary, but through these experiences, trust grows, love overwhelms, and joy erupts.
Pray today:
  • For daily concerns to be released in the presence of Almighty God, for suffering to be eased through trust, for sorrow to be alleviated with love, for joy in every season, through every challenge, in every battle.
  • For rejoicing and singing flowing from our hearts because God is good to us.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.

I Trust

O Lord, how long will you forget me? Forever? How long will you look the other way? But I trust in your unfailing love. I will rejoice because you have rescued me. I will sing to the Lord because he is good to me. (Psalm 13:1, 5, 6 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Spiritual warfare is a constant in the Christian life, at times leaving our emotions raw like the Psalmist, but we are anchored in God's unfailing love which assures us of his rescue and provision in his timing, not ours.
Pray today:
  • For each battle to be fought on our knees in prayer, for emotions of fear and worry to be consumed by God's love, for trust to grow from victory to victory, for rejoicing over God's rescue whether in the past or yet to be, whether now or later.
  • For rejoicing and singing flowing from our hearts because God is good to us.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.

We Give

Our hearts ache, but we always have joy. We are poor, but we give spiritual riches to others. We own nothing, and yet we have everything. (2 Corinthians 6:10 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Whether we have much or little, our mission at Emmanuel College is to pour our lives into others, to give what we have and invest it in the next generation.
Pray today:
  • For the joy of the Lord to overwhelm every human heartache, for spiritual riches to flow abundantly into the lives of our students, staff, and faculty, for lack to be satisfied with plenty through the obedience of God's children.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.

Walk with God

God, I must keep my promises to you. I will give you my offerings to thank you, because you have saved me from death. You have kept me from being defeated. So I will walk with God in light among the living. (Psalms 56:12-13 NCV)

Today's meditation:
  • Our gratitude to God knows no bounds because he has saved us and defeated our foes. And now, we show our gratefulness through our offerings of thanks, through our commitments to his purposes, and through our obedience in following his light.
Pray today:
  • For divine light to see the way of God for Emmanuel College, for supernatural strength to walk boldly where God leads us.

I trust in God. I will not be afraid. What can people do to me? (Psalms 56:11 NCV)

Today's meditation:

Pray today:
  • For eyes on God, for trust in him, in every circumstance, good or bad, clear or uncertain.
  • For fear to dissipate in the presence of our loving Lord, for faith in God to keep us moving forward, for obstacles to God's plan for us to be removed by the power of the Holy Spirit.

I Praise God

I praise God for his word to me; I praise the Lord for his word. (Psalms 56:10 NCV)

Today's meditation:
  • There is God's Word, the Bible, and then there is his word, as in giving his word, his promises that we depend upon.
Pray today:
  • For our prayers of praise to rise to God. May we praise him for who he is, for his presence with us, for his promises to us, for his miracles among us, for his love for us.
  • For faith and trust to grow in us as each challenge is overcome, helping us to see new threats with God's perspective - easy for him, like nothing to him.
Pray for the top three needs of Emmanuel College:
  • To hear the Word of the Lord regarding life after debt and our vision for an expanded mission for 2018 and beyond.
