Comforted

But Abraham said to him, "Son, remember that during your lifetime you had everything you wanted, but Lazarus had nothing. So now he is here being comforted, and you are in anguish. (Luke 16:25 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Jesus' culture is selfless and characterized by helping the less fortunate, who know they are needy, unlike many Americans who have so much that it distracts them from seeing how needy they really are.
Pray today:
  • For the EC Serve mission trip to Costa Rica on May 8-16, for the co-leaders of this trip, Coach T.J. Rosene and his wife Erin and Coach Graham Maxwell and his wife Ginni.

Your Faith

Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked. (1 Timothy 1:19 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • In a world that has abandoned righteousness and is running after every wickedness, God's children are under obligation to stand up and declare God's Word to this generation.

Pleasant Words

The wise are known for their understanding, and pleasant words are persuasive. (Proverbs 16:21 NLT)

Ready to Learn

Intelligent people are always ready to learn. Their ears are open for knowledge. (Proverbs 18:15 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Being open to God and ready to learn is not as easy as it sounds, especially when we think we know it all. Praying first is a good way to open a two-way conversation that may dispel our presuppositions and usher in knowledge for our good.
Pray today:
  • For the Founders Campus Preview tomorrow on campus to bring us many students, for them to be open to consider Emmanuel College, for them to be obedient to God.
  • For the Lord to send us students who are ready to learn, ready to gain knowledge and understanding.

Those Who Work Hard

Lazy people want much but get little, but those who work hard will prosper. (Proverbs 13:4 NLT)

Today's meditation:

Pray today:
  • For an appropriate balance of prayer and action, for seeking God before taking action, but taking action - with God-infused energy and with great resolve.
  • For our methods and processes to exhibit advances in technology for maximum efficiency, but to also be characterized as very personal and intimate, a blending of high tech and high touch.

Keep on Asking

  • In addition, for a culture of service to emerge on our campus, for EC Serve to dramatically open doors of opportunity and purpose for those served as well as for those serving.

Use My Name

At that time you won't need to ask me for anything. I tell you the truth, you will ask the Father directly, an he will grant your request because you use my name. (John 16:23 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Access to God our Father is a remarkable privilege that not only includes basking in his glory but also the opportunity to ask and receive from him.
Pray today:
  • For boldness to ask our Heavenly Father for the needs of Emmanuel College, for persistence and consistency to pray first, to pray often, and to pray through.
  • For us to never tire of asking, to always believe he is listening, to never lose hope that his answers are on the way.
  • For us to ask, remembering the prayers he has already answered, knowing that nothing is too difficult for him because he has already done the remarkable and the miraculous which he will do again and again - if we but ask in Jesus' name.

Open Your Hand Generously

Poor persons will never disappear from the earth. That's why I'm giving you this command: you must open your hand generously to your fellow Israelites, to the needy among you, and to the poor who live with you in the land. (Deuteronomy 15:11 CEB)

Today's meditation:
  • What a privilege to be God's hands and feet by going and serving those less fortunate, some of whom have never heard the Gospel!

  • For additional EC Serve projects possibly to the Cherokee Nation and Haiti that are still in the works, for those who need to serve to hear the call of God to serve, for people involved at every level - those who go and those who support the ones who go through prayers and finances.
  • For EC Serve projects and trips to form as God wills, for places and people to be revealed to us that need help, for expansion of EC Serve to more places and more people.

God's Blessing

Give generously to needy persons. Don't resent giving to them because it is this very thing that will lead to the Lord your God's blessing you in all you do and work at. (Deuteronomy 15:10 CEB)

Today's meditation:
  • God's heart is about sharing and reaching out to the lost, many of whom need to see the helping hand of Christ in me before they can see the Christ on the cross helping them.
Pray today:
  • For EC Serve to be a magnet, attracting mission-fit students to Emmanuel College from all points of the compass, for God's blessing to rest upon the College because we take him at his word - going, giving, serving.
  • For word to spread that Emmanuel College serves, for alumni to spread the word, for pastors and churches to spread the word, for guidance counselors and Christian high schools to spread the word, for the Holy Spirit to spread the word to places familiar and places not known.

Compassionate

You must be compassionate, just as your Father is compassionate. (Luke 6:36 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • To serve is counter to the selfish and greedy culture surrounding us, but we are made in God's image which means we have the capacity for compassion, enabling us to feel what God feels, and when we do, we become his hands of mercy to the less fortunate.
Pray today:
  • For expansion of EC Serve - more students, staff, and faculty involved in more service in more places.
  • For more resources to enable the work of EC Serve to have greater influence for the kingdom of God.
  • For individuals involved in EC Serve to be provided with what they need to go where God is leading them, for those who have yet to be involved to hear the call of God to serve and to respond with obedience.

Today's meditation:

The Safe Path

Mark out a straight path for your feet; stay on the safe path. Don't get sidetracked; keep your feet from following evil. (Proverbs 4:26-27 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • The case for Christian higher education is more compelling than ever before as so many institutions abandon Biblical values, following the evil of this world, tempting Christian youth to forsake faith in God. • For the Campus Preview event in one week at Emmanuel College on March 17 for prospective students, for a larger than expected turnout.

  • For our new Talisma software program, for this software to help us manage our donor database better, for our ability to use it well to communicate with our donors better.
  • For alumni and friends of the College to obey the voice of the Lord in their giving, for many to be sustainers by giving frequently and consistently over time, for others who have greater capacity to make significant gifts to support special projects, for still others who may give infrequently, but who will make large gifts that transform the College by supporting new academic programs and locations.

The Redeemed Will Walk

Lions will not lurk along its course, nor any other ferocious beasts. There will be no other dangers. Only the redeemed will walk on it. (Isaiah 35:9 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • The moral conscience of our nation has reached an all-time low, but the pathway to improvement leads through Biblical truth and the salt and light of believers who share that truth everywhere they go.
Pray today:

  • For those who promote Biblical and righteous values to succeed, for the redeemed to influence legislation and regulation at federal, state, and local levels.
  • For the U.S. Department of Education to reduce its regulatory burden on colleges and universities, for Secretary Betsy DeVos to have wisdom from the Lord to successfully navigate challenges from hostile special interest groups, for Congress and its upcoming work on the Higher Education Re-authorization Act to create less intrusive legislation and make it more supportive of the individual missions of colleges and universities, for Congress to protect the religious freedoms and values of Christian colleges and universities.

  • For still others planning to enter careers as teachers, managers, biologists, therapists and any number of professions, to be faithful in living the joyous example of a Christ-follower everywhere they go.
