Famous

And I will make their land famous for its crops, so my people will never again suffer from famines or the insults of foreign nations. (Ezekiel 34:29 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Producing bountiful crops is hard work, never easy, subject to many variables, so work we must as if everything depends on us, but at the end of every season, God brings the harvest that pleases him.
Pray today:
  • For many avenues of productivity for Emmanuel College, for our fame and reputation to grow as a place where the Lord reigns, where God's work is done, where miracles and transformations are the norm.
  • For Emmanuel College to have everything it needs to fulfill God's purpose, for opposing forces to be quieted and dispelled, for the steady, forward march of God's people in this place.
  • For change-agents and world-changers to be produced who make the College famous, for endorsements to come from far and wide from influential people who align with the work we are doing, for notoriety to be used as a magnet to draw men and women to Jesus who serve the kingdom of God in ever expanding directions and methods.

No Fright

They will no longer be prey for other nations, and wild animals will no longer devour them. They will live in safety, and no one will frighten them. (Ezekiel 34:28 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Threats, whether real or imagined, tend to stimulate fear which, in turn, inhibits action and disrupts joy, but the Christ follower can stay close enough to the Savior in every circumstance to hear him whisper, "Fear not!"
Pray today:
  • For safety and security of Emmanuel College, for nothing to be allowed to disrupt its mission, its focus, its purpose - not fear, not threats, not pressures of any kind.
  • For unity and solidarity to oppose the principalities and powers aligned with evil, for faith to overcome failure, for courage no matter how costly.
  • For tranquil and measured responses to every encounter whether fear-inducing or merely frustrating, for kind words to oppose threatening ones, for noble actions to resist unprincipled behavior, for hope to permeate the darkest days, breaking through the clouds like rays of sunshine.

Bumper Crops

The orchards and fields of my people will yield bumper crops, and everyone will live in safety. When I have broken their chains of slavery and rescued them from those who enslaved them, then they will know that I am the Lord. (Ezekiel 34:27 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • God expects us to put forth effort, no matter how feeble, in order that he may exponentially multiply it, revealing his authority and sovereignty over every opposing force, over every obstinate barrier, over every offensive constraint.
Pray today:
  • For the chains of debt holding Emmanuel College to be broken, for the debt to be eliminated and rendered powerless.
  • For bountiful and exceptional productivity for the College, for more students and more graduates who are change-agents for good in their spheres of influence.
  • For faculty and staff to be effective mentors in shaping each generation of students in their care, for them to use their talents and skills to effect positive change.

Showers of Blessing

I will bless my people and their homes around my holy hill. And in the proper season I will send the showers they need. There will be showers of blessing. (Ezekiel 34:26 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Showers of blessing, showers of blessing we need. Mercy-drops round us are falling, but for the showers we plead. -lyrics by Daniel Whittle
Pray today:
  • For blessing where the enemy intends cursing, for blessings on our students, staff, and faculty, for blessings on our Board of Trustees and leaders, for blessings on our alumni, friends, and prospective students.
  • For sustenance through every season, whether with little or much, for a breakthrough season to come quickly to Emmanuel College followed by the showers of blessing.
  • For us to regularly count our blessings, rejoicing in his care for us, never forgetting his love for us, always trusting his plan for us.

Without Fear

I will make a covenant of peace with my people and drive away the dangerous animals from the land. Then they will be able to camp safely in the wildest places and sleep in the woods without fear. (Ezekiel 34:25 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Peace is often hard to come by while living through threatening storms and surrounded by danger, but God is our peace, and the closer we draw to him, the more his presence obscures the trouble, giving us a better view of his providence and power.
Pray today:
  • For threats to be neutralized, yet in the midst of the storm, for the people of Emmanuel College to enter a covenant of peace with the Lord our God.
  • For the people of Emmanuel College to live without fear, to serve with grace and confidence, to know that God has placed us in his protective care.
  • For all who gather today for Homecoming and for Campus Preview recruiting events to sense God's presence with us, to feel God's peace over us, and to join with us as partners in the miracle of God's provision.

Skill

Hezekiah encouraged all the Levites regarding the skill they displayed as they served the Lord. The celebration continued . . . and the people gave thanks to the Lord, the God of their ancestors. (2 Chronicles 30:22 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • One of the miracles God works is the endowment of abilities and capacities in us and in others that yield effective skills used for his purposes and for the implementation of his plans.
Pray today:
  • For the skill sets needed to resolve the debt encumbrances of Emmanuel College, for clear minds and willing hearts to find solutions.
  • For important meetings and conversations today that require skill and understanding, for wisdom to permeate decision-making.
  • And give thanks for the people God brings into our lives who are part of his plan to activate his solutions.

Generations

But for those who honor the Lord, his love lasts forever, and his goodness endures for all generations of those who are true to his covenant and who faithfully obey his commands. (Psalm 103:17-18 GNB)

Today's meditation:
  • Generations of students come and go, passing through the halls of Emmanuel College, shaped by the Emmanuel experience, making their mark on the world. May God bless and enlarge the next generation standing at the door ready to begin.
Pray today:
  • For a large number of prospective students to be drawn to the Campus Preview event this weekend held in conjunction with Homecoming activities, for them to see clearly if God's plan for them is to attend Emmanuel College.
  • For the admissions staff to be prepared and ready to work with these prospective students, for events to be well-executed, for them to find the strength and energy needed to manage the Preview activities.
  • For other staff and faculty who will participate to share the many benefits of attending Emmanuel, for them to be an inspiration to our prospective students, for the Holy Spirit to work with discernment and direction through all who participate.

He Rules

Everything the Lord has made should praise him in all the places he rules. My whole being, praise the Lord. (Psalm 103:22 NCV)

Today's meditation:
  • May God rule over Emmanuel College, may we yield to his sovereignty and will, and may praises be lifted to the Lord for the many ways he has shown us favor.
Pray today:
  • For all the events and activities planned for Homecoming beginning this Friday, for many alumni and friends to gather to celebrate the Lord's goodness to Emmanuel College.
  • For Homecoming to be a time of praise to the Lord, for it to be a time of giving thanks for God's faithfulness over the 98 years Emmanuel College has served the Lord through the education and service of generation after generation.
  • For alumni and friends to pray for Emmanuel College as never before, for prayers to stream continuously on the College's behalf from alumni and friends around the world.

With Understanding

My words are plain to anyone with understanding, clear to those with knowledge. (Proverbs 8:9 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • In a season characterized by problem-solving, meetings and conference calls occur with regularity, and each one requires knowledge, plain speaking, and understanding led by the Spirit of God.
Pray today:
  • For an important conference call today regarding the College's debt, for complexities to be understood, for knowledge to be gained, for direction to be found.
  • For a significant meeting today, also regarding the College's debt, for the Holy Spirit to lead and guide us into understanding and agreement about next steps.
  • For singular focus in finding and following God's will through a myriad of options and possibilities, for prayers to prepare the way, for minds open to receive God's word, for imperfect circumstances and conditions to yield to God's perfect plan.

He Has Saved

The Lord gives me strength and makes me sing; he has saved me. He is my God, and I will praise him. He is the God of my ancestors, and I will honor him. (Exodus 15:2 NCV)

Today's meditation:
  • Get to the end of your strength, and suddenly God is there with more. Exhaust your supply of energy, and the Lord puts a song in your heart that defies fatigue. Find yourself discouraged, and God reminds you of how he has saved you and will save again. Let the praises begin!
Pray today:
  • For the enrollment team to receive strength and encouragement to work with prospective students, for them to use their training and skills well to serve the body of students yet to enroll.
  • For the student admissions counselors and the recruiters to be effective in helping prospective students see all that Emmanuel College has to offer, for them to find students who will fit and thrive here, who will be transformed, equipped, and enabled, who will be agents of change for good and for God.
  • For the financial aid staff to be successful in finding resources for students who plan to enroll, for the entire enrollment team to work together as one in reaching the next generation of Emmanuel College students.

Mighty Things

Then everyone will know the mighty things you do and the glory and majesty of your kingdom.  (Psalm 145:12 NCV)

Today's meditation:
  • Logic says that colleges under stress do not grow dramatically, but when God is with us, logic must submit to the sovereignty and majesty of God Almighty which is why Emmanuel College has had three consecutive years of record-breaking enrollment. To God be the glory!
Pray today:
  • For enrollment to grow from this year's 952 to over 1000 students next fall, for students whom God is calling to attend Emmanuel to hear that call and respond in obedience over the next nine months.
  • For God's mighty work to not only be the miracle of 1000 students, but also to be the mighty works done in and through our students to touch the world.
  • For God's power to shine through the next generation being trained on our campus who will become pastors, business people, educators, scientists, writers, film makers, musicians, and leaders in so many fields, all serving in their professions to the glory of God.

Joyful

But joyful are those who have the God of Israel as their helper, whose hope is in the Lord their God. (Psalm 146:5 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Present circumstance may be difficult and the future may look bleak, but think of the Lord and his merciful, miraculous provisions for us in the past, and sustaining joy will flood our present and fill our future.
Pray today:
  • For registration for next semester to be strong, for a record-breaking number of new students to enroll.
  • For current students to return, more than expected, especially those who may be discouraged, for them to find hope and resolve in Jesus, for them to pray and work hard to succeed, for financial resources to be available.
  • For hope to be high, for joy to be full because the Lord is helping us and will help us, for students, staff, and faculty to reach out to him for help as needed, and regardless of stress and trouble, to be joyful in the Lord.

He Thunders

Those who fight against the Lord will be shattered. He thunders against them from heaven; the Lord judges throughout the earth. (2 Samuel 2:10 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • How comforting to know that God's power is unlimited, shattering opposition. How sobering that he judges throughout the earth.
Pray today:
  • For the forces arrayed against Emmanuel College to submit to the Lord, for opposition to God's plan to falter and fail.
  • For the thunder of heaven to be heard, for God's power to work through us, for us to be in step with him, marching into the battles he chooses for us, fighting the fight in God's ways and for his purposes to be achieved.
  • For our students to allow the Lord to fight their battles and vanquish their foes, for some it is a battle for self-control and self-discipline to study and learn, for others it is a battle against temptation and for purity of mind, body and spirit, for still others it is a battle to accept God's call upon their lives and submission to his will.

He Understands

The Lord looks down from heaven and sees the whole human race. From his throne he observes all who live on the earth. He made their hearts, so he understands everything they do. (Psalm 33:13-15 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • May we be acutely aware that God is watching over everything we do, offering correction and guidance as needed. Ours is to trust his heart.
Pray today:
  • For the people of Emmanuel College to be aligned with the heart of God, for our thoughts to be his thoughts, our actions his actions.
  • For forgiveness of sin from our God who understands our proclivity to sin, for encouragement to persist from our God who understands our frail emotions, for victory in every battle from our God who understands how to make the weak strong.
  • For faith and confidence in God who understands all complexities and conundrums we face, who understands how easily we can be confused and derailed, who understands the power of faith that carries the human heart through places it could not go but for his help.

Discernment

I, Wisdom, live together with good judgment. I know where to discover knowledge and discernment. (Proverbs 8:12 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • When we've done all we can do with the knowledge we have, we can count on God to show up with divine discernment to illumine the wisest path.
Pray today:
  • For important meetings today to be saturated with wisdom and good judgment, for all the people involved to discern the will of the Lord.
  • For two conference calls this week, one on Thursday and one yet to be scheduled, to add to our knowledge base for debt resolution, for the EC team to discern how to fit all the pieces of knowledge together to see God's way forward, for decision-making to be rooted in wisdom coming from the Lord.
  • For God's wisdom to prevail when human judgment fails, and when knowledge falls short, may the gaps be filled by Spirit-inspired discernment.

God is Working in You

Keep on working to complete your salvation with fear and trembling, because God is working in you to help you want to do and be able to do what pleases him. Do everything without complaining and arguing. (Philippians 2:12b-14 NCV)

Today's meditation:
  • A healthy debate is characterized by genuine care for those in the conversation and a cohesive spirit to find God's path to solutions that work for all.
Pray today:
  • For the wise expenditure of energy on things that matter, for laser-like focus on solving Emmanuel's debt problem, for cooperation to abound among all parties.
  • For resistance to the urge to waste energy by complaining, for resolve to be innovative and collaborative in problem-solving.
  • For everything to be done in a way that pleases God, for the love of Christ to rule over all.

Endure

I know the experience of being in need and of having more than enough; I have learned the secret to being content in any and every circumstance, whether full or hungry or whether having plenty or being poor. I can endure all these things through the power of the one who gives me strength. (Philippians 4:12-13 CEB)

Today's meditation:
  • Visionaries are seldom satisfied with success, but are always pushing to the next big thing, and in the extreme, can find themselves overextended. What is needed are visionaries who fit the Philippians definition of being content to use what's in their hands to the glory of God, never forcing the action, always facilitating as God builds the house.
Pray today:
  • For the Emmanuel family to possess faith-based endurance, steadily maintaining the work of ministry in the present while patiently seeking a God-inspired vision for the future.
  • For confidence in God's keeping power through lean times, for strength at the breakout moments to advance boldly in times of plenty.
  • For those who grow weary in the fight to tap into the power of Jesus, to draw spiritual and emotional strength from Jesus, to find the stamina to stand another day, to work one more hour, to endure until Jesus brings a better day.

Be Content

I was very glad in the Lord because now at last you have shown concern for me again. (Of course you were always concerned but had no way to show it.) I'm not saying this because I need anything, for I have learned how to be content in any circumstance. (Philippians 4:10-11 CEB)

Today's meditation:
  • Contentment in any circumstance is not the same thing as giving up or ceasing efforts to improve, but it is a lifestyle that declares faith in God to sustain us as we work to make things better, a lifestyle characterized less by complaint and more by positive action.
Pray today:
  • For us to never be content with shoddy performance or minimal effort, for us to work hard and with God to develop excellence in everything we do, and along the way, be forcefully positive.
  • For our students to spend less energy making excuses, regardless of the field of endeavor, and invest more effort in transforming themselves with the help of Jesus into God's masterpiece.
  • For the Emmanuel family to be patiently focused on the future God has in store for us, while working together steadily in the present with what we have.

Things that Deserve Praise

In conclusion, my brothers and sisters, fill your minds with those things that are good and that deserve praise: things that are true, noble, right, pure, lovely, and honorable. (Philippians 4:8 GNB)

Today's meditation:
  • May we develop the habit, regardless of whether times are hard or easy, of always looking for what's right and good, always showing appreciation where it is due.
Pray today:
  • For energy and persistence to solve problems and overcome challenges, but while doing so, pray for the perspective to see what's good, admirable, and worthy of praise.
  • For honorable thoughts and expressions, pure motives, noble actions, genuine concern, and delightful fellowship.
  • For our students who may be struggling, for them to fill their minds with thoughts that lift and encourage and that lead them to persevere and succeed.

Harmony

How wonderful it is, how pleasant, for God's people to live together in harmony. (Psalm 133:1 GNB)

Today's meditation:
  • How comforting, and yes, wonderful it is to shoulder the load with others, to lift and be lifted, to love and be loved, to encourage and be encouraged.
Pray today:
  • For harmony and cooperation among all those working on behalf of Emmanuel College, whether internal or external, whether center stage or backstage.
  • For the Emmanuel family to move as one, each in his or her role, working together for our common purpose of changing lives through education, spiritual formation, character-building, and service.
  • For the ability to manage through difficulties with grit and determination, surrounded by encouragement and hope, united in common bonds of ministry and mission.

Pleasing God

So if you are suffering in a manner that pleases God, keep on doing what is right, and trust your lives to the God who created you, for he will never fail you. (1 Peter 4:19 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Suffering, then, is part of life, even the life of the Christian, and the challenge is not so much to avoid it as it is to please God while living through it.
Pray today:
  • For sturdy resolve to do what's right even in a world that says its Ok to do wrong, for commitment to principles of love and service, for living the example of holiness in thought and action.
  • For trust in God to never waiver, no matter the pain or difficulty, for assurance that he is always only a prayer away.
  • For any student, staff, or faculty that may be hurting right now because of issues and events life throws our way, for the suffering ones to find solace in Jesus who never fails us, for them to take comfort in his presence.

Partners with Christ

Dear friends, don't be surprised at the fiery trials you are going through, as if something strange were happening to you. Instead, be very glad - for these trials make you partners with Christ in his suffering, so that you will have the wonderful joy of seeing his glory when it is revealed to all the world. (1 Peter 4:12-13 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Where do some Christians get this notion that we are exempt from difficulties and trials? It's not about exemption but about persevering through trouble knowing that God is with us.
Pray today:
  • For quiet contentment and peace in the privilege of knowing Jesus and partnering with him in good times and bad, when life is easy and when it's hard, trusting him for outcomes that bring him glory.
  • For gladness during trouble that steadies our emotions and builds our confidence in God no matter the difficulties we face.
  • For those at Emmanuel College who feel stress and who are troubled, regardless of the cause of the suffering, to look to Jesus for help and to be content whether he brings endurance to navigate the trouble or deliverance from it.

My Voice in Praise

I raise my voice in praise and tell of all the miracles you have done. (Psalm 26:7 NCV)

Today's meditation:
  • God's expectation is that we will work hard to solve challenges and advance his kingdom, but ultimately, his miraculous interventions bridge the gaps in our efforts, revealing he is in control and should receive all the praise, glory and honor.
Praise today:
  • And give thanks for what God has done for Emmanuel College, for sustaining miracles that bring hope and encouragement, for miracles that bring assurance that God is with us.
  • And give thanks for how God has brought us the right people at the right time who bring expertise and wisdom to solve challenges.
  • And give thanks for the many times God has sent financial resources in just the right amount to meet the needs of the hour.

Wonderful Mercy

Yet whenever your people turned and cried to you again for help, you listened once more from heaven. In your wonderful mercy, you rescued them many times! (Nehemiah 9:28b NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • God's attentiveness - incredible. God's patience - inexplicable. God's mercy - wonderful!
Pray today:
  • For more prayers offered for Emmanuel College, for unflagging perseverance in prayer among those who call upon the Lord on our behalf, for more people to cry out to God for us - for our students, staff and faculty, for our administration, for our Board of Trustees.
  • For more prayers of all kinds, for prayers of repentance, prayers of intercession, prayers of healing and health, prayers of hope, prayers of praise and exaltation, prayers of victory and celebration.
  • For rescue, miraculous and remarkable rescue, for a way when there seems to be no way, for safe passage through dark valleys, for stamina and energy to climb high mountains, for God to supply whatever is needed when it is needed.

Good Judgment

Get the truth and never sell it; also get wisdom, discipline, and good judgment. (Proverbs 23:23 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • Truth - unchanging and resilient regardless of cultural context or contemporary thought. May we seek truth and embed it in our hearts and minds to guide everything we think and do.
Pray today:
  • For the Emmanuel College Board of Trustees meeting today, for wisdom to permeate all discussions, for good judgment in all decisions.
  • For the leadership of the College to be disciplined in our plans and in our work, for wisdom and good judgment in day-to-day decisions and actions.
  • For the Trustees and Administration to work harmoniously together with sturdy resolve to lead the College to where the Lord leads us.

Generous

Yes, you will be enriched in every way so that you can always be generous. And when we take your gifts to those who need them, they will thank God. (2 Corinthians 9:11 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • May those who are generous be enriched spiritually and financially, enabling them to continue their work of generosity, motivating others to follow their example.
Pray today:
  • And give thanks for the Women's Ministries of the IPHC for faithfully supporting Emmanuel College through the annual Vision 4 Education offering which happens today at 10:00 a.m.
  • For the WM, a vital ministry of the church, to increase its ministry worldwide, to be a blessing and to be blessed with energy, wisdom, resources and vision.
  • And give thanks for each person who worked to raise funds for the Vision 4 Education offering, for each church that engaged its people to give to education, for the efforts of each local church WM, for the national and conference leaders of the WM who have inspired so many to support the mission of education in the church.

Mighty and Awesome God

For the Lord your God is the God of gods and the Lord of lords. He is the great God, the mighty and awesome God . . . (Deuteronomy 10:17a NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • To know our awesome God personally and to worship at his feet are remarkable privileges that should not be taken for granted.
Pray today:
  • For earnest and sincere worship of our mighty God among our students, staff and faculty, for praise to constantly be on our lips.
  • And give thanks for God's presence among us, for his love reaching to us, for redeeming and reclaiming us as his own.
  • And praise today for God's favor and kindness to us, for the miracles he has sent our way and will yet send, for his comfort in turbulent times and peace that passes understanding.

Working Together

Then make me truly happy by agreeing wholeheartedly with each other, loving one another, and working together with one mind and purpose. (Philippians 2:2 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • What a joy to work together with like-minded brothers and sisters in ministry and mission, in a labor of love, and in fulfillment of his call. Praise the Lord!
Pray today:
  • For preparations for the meeting of the Board of Trustees to go well over the next few days, for data and reports to come together, for ideas to be sound, for presentations to be clear.
  • For the leadership team to work together in unity and purpose to serve the Lord through Emmanuel College.
  • For all our ideas and efforts to be covered in prayer and in line with God's will.

Anyone Who Needs Wisdom

But anyone who needs wisdom should ask God, whose very nature is to give to everyone without a second thought, without keeping score. Wisdom will certainly be given to those who ask. Whoever asks shouldn't hesitate. They should ask in faith, without doubting. (James 1:5-6a CEB)

Today's meditation:
  • We may ask God for many things, and sometimes we ask for the wrong things, but asking for wisdom is always appropriate, and if we ask believing that God grants wisdom, we will receive it.
Pray today:
  • For the leadership of Emmanuel College to pray for wisdom and pray for it often, for us to recognize wisdom when it comes and to use wisdom in our decision-making and in our actions.
  • For our prayer partners to ask God to give us wisdom and to ask often, to ask for wisdom that cuts through confusion and complexity, that clears a path through emotions and bias, that leads to perfect words offered in perfect timing.
  • For faith to believe that God always grants wisdom to his children who ask for wisdom.

Pure Joy

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters, whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. (James 1:2-4 NIV)

Today's meditation:
  • Joy and trials, pure joy and testing. Human nature says its either/or, but God says its both/and. At the end of the trial, it's easy to have joy, but in the middle, not so much. Teach us, Lord, to live in joy.
Pray today:
  • For the Emmanuel family to have the faith and the energy to persevere and pray through until the current constrictive challenges are overcome.
  • For the Emmanuel family to celebrate with joy in advance of our victory through faith, knowing that life after debt will produce a whole new set of visionary challenges through which we must persevere.
  • For perseverance, meaning staying with it, putting one foot in front of the other, getting up when you fall down, and if you can't, crawling until you can, until you finish, until the job is done, but all the while, holding onto the pure joy that comes from knowing God is with us.

Remind Us

We will use these stones to build a memorial. In the future your children will ask you, "What do these stones mean?" Then you can tell them, "They remind us that the Jordan River stopped flowing when the Ark of the Lord's Covenant went across." (Joshua 4:6-7 NLT)

Today's meditation:
  • No river too large, no mountain too high, no resistance too great that God cannot control and mitigate it in favor of his people and his plan for them. God be praised.
Pray today:
  • For the number two challenge facing Emmanuel College over the next eight months - achieving reaffirmation of accreditation with no sanctions because a debt solution is in place.
  • For the leadership of the College to manage effectively a very tight timetable and an extensive action list resulting in a satisfactory debt solution in March and reaffirmation in June.
  • For every obstacle currently in our way as well as every obstruction yet to come to be rendered impotent and useless by the power of God.
