Prayer of Confession

Arise in Prayer - Day 20 of 21

So I turned to the Lord God and pleaded with him in prayer and petition, in fasting, and in sackcloth and ashes. I prayed to the Lord my God and confessed. (Daniel 9:3-4 NIV)

Fasting, sackcloth, and ashes tell us that Daniel is praying in a state of mourning. We prefer joyful prayers and praise, but sometimes we need to stop and confess in deep sorrow for our sins, the sins of our family, the sins of the church, the sins of the nations. Read Daniel's prayer (vs. 4-19) as an example of confessional prayer. Fasting indicates a seriousness in prayer that demonstrates that our need for God and his mercy is greater than our need for food. It is sobering to think of our thoughts, words, and behaviors compared to the holiness of Almighty God. It should bring us to our knees in humble submission begging for mercy and favor.

Pray confessional prayers today: We confess unholy attitudes and thoughts. We confess arrogance and pride in dealing with others. We confess that our sins are a reproach to the holiness of God and beg forgiveness. Cleanse and sanctify us as vessels for use in your kingdom.

Pray every Saturday for the preservation of religious freedoms throughout our nation. Pray that no law, regulation, or court case will impede Christian colleges and universities from maintaining scriptural standards.

Pray daily for the few among our students and employees who have the corona virus. Pray for their healing and comfort. Pray for our COVID-19 Response Team that cares for students in quarantine and isolation. Pray for the eradication of this virus.

Thank you for praying.
